Blog Tour Stop│The Silver Crescent by Debby Grahl│Book Review

Available from The Writer's Coffee Shop and Amazon (B&N, Kobo and iTunes - available soon)

Summary:

Betrayal, murder and a stolen fortune bring Elise Baxter to Cedar Bend, Michigan, on a quest to solve a family mystery—and recover the missing treasure.

Max Holt impulsively buys a crumbling Victorian mansion and fulfills his dream of restoring it as a restaurant and inn. Aware of its reputation for being haunted, he adds to the mystique by building a garden path of old tombstones, one of which belongs to the original owner of the house, Cyrus Mosby—the man whose legacy Elise has traced, and who allegedly stole her ancestral share of a Colorado silver mine over a century ago.

Following clues gleaned from old diaries and a visit from the spirit of her great-great-grandmother, Elise seeks out Max and his inn. Not knowing if she can trust Max with her family secret, Elise pretends her interest is in researching Cyrus, whose own violent death remains a mystery.

An intense attraction between Max and Elise leads him to believe she may be the girl of his dreams. But when he discovers her true interest in him and his inn, memories of a past betrayal threaten to end their passionate relationship. Elise, finding herself falling in love with Max, fears her deception may cost her more than she is willing to lose.

Once persuaded the stolen silver is hidden somewhere in the inn, and captivated by the idea of a treasure hunt, Max and Elise begin the search together, aided by the resident ghosts, Cyrus and Virginia.

The treasure hunt seems like a harmless adventure until someone tries to steal the diaries. Unknown to Max and Elise, there are others—including an evil presence—who are driven by greed and will stop at nothing to unlock the mystery of the Silver Crescent.

♥My Review♥
♥♥♥♥♥

Can I first start with this book cover??? Look at it!! It just draws you in and you know that there is a mystery and steamy romance waiting for you! I absolutely love this book and it's cover!

Okay, enough fangirling over it and down to business... Grahl has a hit on her hands. This story that she created left me wanting more! The mystery and hidden treasure is a thrill, finding all the different clues and who and how they link to those who lived long ago.

The paranormal aspect was great! Sometimes, you read about ghosts and they are almost comical and unrealistic, I didn't find that to be true with The Silver Crescent.

The romance was sizzling between Elise and Max, and I might say that I am a fan of that man!! I could go on and on how I swoon over Max Holt!

Let me give you a little taste of what The Silver Crescent has to offer!!

This not only a story of an epic romance, but it's a story about a treasure hunt with ghosts that not only help by leaving clues, but ghosts who tries to ward the characters away by causing unpleasant and horrifying events. With a dark and mysterious history of the Inn and it's past owner.

This book will leave you on the edge of your seat, wanting more and more romance between Elise and Max, as well as more history about what happened to the original owner and his companions.

Who killed who, why did they kill them...was it theft or was there more to it!

Join Elise, Max, Jack, Kathy and Oliver on this amazing journey and see how it ends!

The Selection by Kiera Cass│Book Review

♥♥♥♥♥

♥Synopsis♥

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life lad out for them since birth. To be swept up in  a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

♥My Review♥

Kiera Cass creates a world that is not far off of a possible future. The United States are no longer, just part of history, a distant memory...the United States is not as we know it to be.

The US is now call Illea, after the 4th World War is now run by an Anarchy. There are castes ranging from 1- being as high raking as possible to 8- people who have nothing, lowest of the castes.

The Selection of 35 girl's of age, drawn from a lottery, at a chance to win the affection of the Prince. This lottery is run through all the castes, with the exception of caste 1.

There is a mix of the following:
♥Drama-35 girls all competing for one man.
♥Humor- naturally some of the girls find themselves in situations that would embarrass anyone.
♥Action-threats and attacks on the Kingdom at anytime of the day from rebels.
♥Mystery- living in a castle with more than its fair share of secrets and secret rooms
♥Romance- the gorgeous and charming Prince Maxon.

In my opinion while reading this, I found it to be a mix of the Hunger Games- due to the castes much like the districts, The Princess Diaries- the dresses and glamour of the entire ordeal and The Bachelor with the one man selecting one woman to be his princess.

I rather enjoyed this world and many of the characters. Of course there were characters I found lacking, however they served their purpose in this story.

I highly recommend this book.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling│Book Review

♥♥♥♥

♥Synopsis♥

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck-impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence "Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I'll shut up about it?"

Perhaps you want to know more about what Mindy thinks a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is awaare of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you've come to the right book, mostly!

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just  a Girl Next Door-not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

♥My Review♥

Mindy is so funny!

I enjoyed listening to this on Audio because not only does Mindy narrate it, the book is full of interesting facts about her life. I really can't review this other than saying that it was enjoyable.

There were funny bits throughout the book and with Mindy narrating it, it's even that much funnier!

If you watch The Office and like the character that Mindy plays (a chapter about The Office), than you would probably enjoy this book.

I have never seen The Office and I still enjoyed this.
I would definitely recommend this book.

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead│Book Review

♥♥♥♥♥

♥Synopsis♥

St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school- it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimer's-the very place where they're most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romances, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi=the worlds' fiercest and most dangerous vampires- make Lissa one of them forever.

♥My Review♥

How many vampire books are there and how many of them are based on the cliche' world of vampires? Too many to count!

The definition of Vampire: a dead person who leaves the grave at night to bite and suck blood from living people.

The very definition would cause you to assume that this book is about the un-dead who only come out at night and prey on humans, especially young females who are out wandering in places that they shouldn't.

 Not Vampire Academy!!!!

The world that Mead created is not your typical Vampire World. She has created a world with not one, but two types of vampires and a hybrid.

Moroi- vampires that live off of not only blood, but food. They can go out in the daylight, only it makes them weak. They don't hunt humans, but have humans who willingly offer themselves to feed the Moroi, because they get off on something that is in the saliva of the Moroi.

Strigoi- vampires who feed on Moroi, hunting them down to kill them/turn them into Strigoi. They can't go out during the day and can only be killed by a stake to the heart, decapitation or set on fire.

Than you have Dhampirs (Hybrid) - part vampire, part human...do not drink blood. Most Dhampirs train to be the guardians of the Moroi. They have special abilities such has fast reflexes, keen eyesight and hearing. They are strong and are able to take on a Strigoi only after being trained at St. Vladimir's Academy.

Now that being said, it is a lot of information to take in, that's exactly what I thought! However, the way Mead wrote about these types of vampires, are easily explained. It sounds like a lot of info to take in, but she explains it much better than I can.

This has become one of my favorite Vampire Series and I have re-read it numerous times over the years.

Even if you don't like Vampire based stories, I suggest you give Vampire Academy a chance. It is full of action, fighting, romance, drama, mystery and much more.

This book was a page turner. There was not a second that went by that I was distracted because I was so involved with this book.

I highly recommend this book and the entire Vampire Academy Series!

I gave this ♥♥♥♥♥ out of ♥♥♥♥♥ on Goodreads.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White│ Book Review

♥♥♥♥♥

♥Synopsis♥

Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormal glamours.

But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

♥My Review♥

After reading nothing but New Adult, this was a nice turn back into Young Adult/Paranormal.

If you are a fan of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Vampire Academy, I would say there is a good chance you will like this. No, there is no "Slayer" or "Dhampir", but it's similar nonetheless.

The writing and creation of characters and the world they live in is almost believable, if mythical creatures such as Vampires, Fairies, Werewolves any many other mythical creatures actually existed.

This book is filled with mystery, romance, suspense and action. It's fairly fast paced and a nice escape.

I would recommend this book and I plan on continuing with the series.

I gave this ♥♥♥♥♥ out of ♥♥♥♥♥ on Goodreads.

♥About the Author♥

Hi, I'm the New York Times best-selling author of Paranormalcy and Supernaturally. I also give the most awkward hugs in the world. You should probably opt for one of my books over one of my hugs, but then again, maybe you like awkward hug.

As for me, I like writing flirting scenes, and fighting scenes, and sometimes I write scenes that fall somewhere in between the tow, but only if I can't avoid it.
